I purchased this game from amazon in April and also never received the promised code from Amazon. When i finally got the oode, early play was « full ». In my case, ordering one month early didn’t even get me in! Lesson learned: i will not pre-order games through Amazon again. Funcom should be ashamed of releasing such a huge number of codes, then not honoring the codes they released…classic bait and switch to get people to buy the game early. I realize some of you may be sick of hearing about people’s experiences with the order and would like us review the actual game…my response: I’d love to! As soon as i can get in! The reality is, bad experience with Funcom IS part of the game experience. You would think Funcom would have learned this from their release of Anarchy Online, but apparently not.

For all of you out there, think before you use Amazon for pre-order service on software.

I ordered WOW-BC, it came late.

I ordered AoC and it will not ship until 8 days after the servers go live.

When I ordered all the Harry Potter books, they came on the day of release.

Now for all you people saying you didn’t get a code emailed. You had to look in your media library for the code. It was there but well hidden, imo. It took me awhile to find it but I did find it after reading all the fine print. Amazon’s customer service is lacking. They use to be so much better. Be warned if you pre-order stuff from them.

I pre-ordered this game on the 14th, my roommate did the same from here on the 15th. His arrives on the 21st, while im still waiting for mine as of the 28th when we both paid for overnight shipping (he was fortunate to get a diferent shipping company). Contacting DHL (the shipping co), they were arguementative and insistant that the very same address where everything else I’ve mailed or ordered shows up could not be my address. They insist its « on the way » while their shipment tracker has had my shipment listed as « With delivery courier » for 4 days. Would be easier if DHL would just give the package to UPS to deliver. Must recommend either getting this game elsewhere as I had to, or hope you dont get stuck w/ DHL delivering.

Age of Conan has nice graphics, but its violence is disgusting, and the animations look strange. Gameplay is mediocre.

  5. Like a great many people I have watched the progress of AoC for over a year and eagerly awaited the chance to access the game. When the Pre-Release Early Access program was initiated and announced, I jumped on the chance and ordered thru another vendor (I won’t mention who simply because this is NOT a vendor related issue). Many days went by with no release code issued until finally on the 12th of May I contacted Funcom. I was given a long-winded explanation that amounted to « Sorry Charlie, you ain’t gettin in early, but we look forward to seeing you in Hibernia! »

My response was to immediately cancel the order and I’m unlikely to purchase the game now until after Funcom initiates a « try before you buy » program. My reasoning is simple, lousy customer service BEFORE they have your money isn’t likely to improve after they have it. So yes, there are major problems that exist at least in this phase of the process, but these are not problems created by Amazon. These issues exist throughout the Funcom vendor community, and no vendor should be held liable when product availability is fundamentally flawed at the source.

The super hard-core game geeks out there will undoubtedly muddle through anyway and eventually get in, but then the real test will be to see how Funcom responds to the myriad of problems those folks will encounter during their first season of play. Something tells me, this is just the tip of an enormous iceberg and AoC may be a rough ride for quite a while to come.
